Trick_or-Treat Day Tips

Here are some Halloween tips I wanted to share before the big day:
  • Buy more candy than you think you'll need, but buy a type that you or your family doesn't especially love. Better to have leftovers than to run out. Maybe this sounds counter-intuitive, but I find it less tempting to keep candy I don't like in the house! Towards the end of the night, if you still have candy left, be extra generous to trick-or-treaters.
  • Look for great Halloween bargains for next year, now. At Target yesterday, the Halloween stuff was already 30% off. I like to go the day after and pick up costumes at 50-75% off for my kids to wear for the next Halloween or for dress-up. Simply put the newly bought items into your Halloween storage bins, and next year when you open them up in October, you'll be happy with the discounted additions.
  • Be prepared to add warmth to kids' costumes if the weather dictates. There's nothing worse than covering up the beautiful fairy outfit with a winter coat. Think about what can be worn under.
  • Is the video camera charged up? Is the digital camera ready for all the photo ops? Have enough candles for the jack 0'lanterns, or batteries for the flashlights?
  • Think about an easy dinner for that night -- my kids are usually too excited and busy to really eat on Halloween, but I don't want candy to be their only food intake. Be prepared with snacks they can have once back from trick-or-treating.
